This review article addresses the biomechanics, risk factors, clinical characteristics and management of the most recurrent and serious ocular pathologies that can be presented during sports activities. Other topics that will be covered are the initial steps in the management of any type of eye injury, the essential tools that a sports trauma bag should contain, how to conduct a ophthalmological evaluation prior sports participation, and finally how to prevent eye injuries through the use of protective eyewear in sports classified as high risk or in athletes with visual impairment.
