Abstract

Introduction: The use of ergogenic aids is the last legal resource within organized sport. It also represents an ethical option to help non-athletes with an interest in regular physical activity, taking care of their organic balance.

Objective: to analyze the renal response in sedentary subjects before the ingestion of bicarbonated water, prior to the execution of aerobic activity.

Materials and methods: Five (5) male subjects with an average age of 31 years were evaluated for the control group and 29.3 years for the experimental group, who ingested a 5% solution of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), The pH and urine volume samples were taken before the test and after the test, with an interval of 15 minutes for the post-test collection.

Results: A tendency to the alkalinity of the urinary pH in the experimental group could be evidenced being its value in pre-test 6,58 and post-test in the last collection of 7,21; while the control group maintained the acidity from its pre-test value at 6.47, keeping acid until 6.35. The urinary volume maintained a tendency to decrease during exercise recovery in both groups.

Conclusions: When monitoring the renal response, it is evidente that the buffer effect of the bicarbonate is manifested efficiently, and it is considered effective for the group in study the organic tolerance of the strategy to elaborate a solution at 5% concentration of NaHCO3.
